PHS wrestling is a multi-faceted program, instilling growth, heathy lifestyles and nutrition, a competitive nature, and above all else respect among athletes. It’s expected that the wrestlers shake their opponent’s hand both before and after each match, and treat every athlete with respect and courtesy; in fact it’s not uncommon to see our older wrestlers even give an opponent a hug after the match, as some of them have wrestled the same athletes repeatedly over the course of their high school careers, or formed friendships with athletes from other schools whether they win OR lose.
Wrestlers are encouraged and coached to eat healthy to maintain weight, perform fairly, and maintain a high level of discipline no matter the situation. A fair amount of the team has embraced these core principles so much that they wrestle with local club teams year-round, and have even decided to wrestle in college after graduation.
